Time management is important for new entrepreneurs

Here's a time-management trick for new entrepreneurs.

Don't save anything on your computer desktop unless it's related to what you're working on, advised Caroline "Cary" Sheehan, general manager of Office Suites Plus (OfficeSuitesPLUS.com) on Sadler Road in Glen Allen near Innsbrook.

When you're done with documents, file them away in an electronic folder, she said. "Instead of 50 things on my desktop, I only have two to four," she said. "I never save anything on my desktop unless it's something I'm working on."

If you let files and e-mail pile up, "it becomes such an overwhelming task to catch up," Sheehan said. "It's daunting. You don't know where to start."

New entrepreneurs should start smart by learning the best way to manage their time, she said.

On Wednesday, Sheehan will lead a class titled "Time Management" at New Visions, New Ventures, 701 E. Franklin St., Suite 712, in downtown Richmond.

She will teach entrepreneurs how to run their businesses more efficiently by identifying and focusing on activities that will give the greatest returns. Attendees will learn to save time by working smarter, not harder. She also will show them tools that can help them stay organized.

The class is from 6:30 to 9 p.m. The cost is $20. Preregister at NVNV.org. For more details, call (804) 643-1081.
